BLACKMAIL SCAM

Sender attemps to blackmail recipient, claims to have recordings.

We often see variations of this scam, which attempts to scare the recipient into sending the scammer money. They claim to have embarrassing information and/or recordings that they will send to the recipient's boss, family, friends, or entire contact list if they are not paid. They will also try to use some real information (in this case the recipient's phone number and address) to try to lend their threats some legitimacy. The scammers will likely follow up with additional threatening emails if they do not get what they want, so adding them to your SPAM/Junk Mail is a good option.

The best thing to do in this situation is to mark as SPAM and delete the email then move on with your day. Do not engage with the sender and they will usually stop sending you emails.

Here is the example that a rof.net user sent. As you can see these emails can be very threatening and scary.
